It's not the first time I've cried while working out.
Not from the pain or the sweat, but because of this song that comes up on my workout playlist.
As the lyrics ring out, I think of him and my body fills with a deep joy starting at my toes, spreading as goosebumps up my legs and arms, and then the tears come.
The funny thing is, he's never said these words to me (or even knows about this song).
But he speaks them to me every day with his actions.
Simple as can be, I've got your hands in mine.
You don't have to listen carefully, I'll tell you a thousand times.
Anything you feel, put it all on me, all of your thoughts, I want everything.
And when you get sad, like you do sometimes, put it all on me.
Put it ALL on me.
At any moment I can go to him with my complaints, struggles, challenges, or tears.
He'll let me sit on his lap and cry on his shoulder, and bitch and whine about this or that thing. And he'll do it all with a smile on his face and a laugh on his lips.
And I know he can handle it, no matter how ugly it gets.
I'll lift you when you're feeling low.
I'll hold you when the night gets cold.
You'll never have to be alone.
And that's all you need to know.
A love like this is rare. It's like finding a treasure. It's more precious than anything else in life. It's the truest thing I know.
But it could have turned out differently. We could have been a 'normal' couple.
All that would require is for us to behave in 'normal' ways, which we don't do and that is why we have a Storybook Love (another of 'our songs').
Instead of behaving 'normally', he worships the ground I walk on and is obsessed with me, body, mind, and spirit. We make love 3-6 times a week. He is my best friend. I talk to him about anything. He is everything to me, the most important person in my life -- yes, even more important than my mother or children or friends.
It's a storybook love, but it's real, and it's possible.
And it starts because he says to me with every look and every action:
